Matilda Process
For the most part, we bought everything for Matilda. I'm pretty happy with how this designed turned out. After showing my inspiration to the director, I started by pulling things from the theater’s costume stock for actors to try on. Then I ordered a bunch of costume pieces online, went to thrift stores, and clothing stores to get whatever else was needed. To help exaggerate Trunchbull’s appearance, we put the actor in this foam muscle top and added lifts to his boots to make him even taller. Trunchbull’s hair was a combination of the actor’s hair being slicked back and a clip-on faux bun I made by hot gluing extensions to a foam bun. For Mr. Wormwood’s hair, I got three wigs. One that served as his “natural” hair, one that I painted green, and one that I painted green but also added a painted piece of leather to to create a bald spot. A fun detail I did for Miss Honey’s outfits was create little Roald Dahl illustration iron ons to act as easter eggs to his other works. And her final look had little Matilda illustrations to show that they found each other.
